Like many other cities in the U.S., SF is facing an overdose crisis. It's time to turn to solutions that work: safe injection sites provide lifesaving care that our city desperately needs. In the wake of the surge in ODs, we need them now more than ever.https://www.sfchronicle.com/opinion/openforum/article/Philadelphia-case-could-clear-the-way-for-safe-15728969.php …

Lots of piers and old abandoned buildings around as well.

Except in the most drastic circumstances. Those that are heavily addicted to drugs, and whose life is at risk should have somewhere to be taken to that can offer aid if required, but otherwise watch. Some non-violent solution to offer when people have had too much.

I think the question should be will it have a ventilated 'smoking' area for smoking Fentanyl and Meth since that is becoming the primary ingestion method of these drugs.

Isn't it much harder to OD smoking opiates than shooting them? (+ eliminating risk of infection). These sites are meant to reduce ODs. Ideally we could get people interested enough in quitting they could try the methadone route. Certainly a difficult topic with no easy answers.

Staff with Narcan reduce OD death. Using on the street can make you a victim of crime and harassment. Sites are actually "safe". Needles stay onsite, not dropped on the street. Can offer treatment the moment people are ready to receive it.

Addiction is an illness so care and civic love is a valid approach over criminalisation and punishment.
