Paris itself is a very stressful place to live, but the French lack of interest in constant self-improvement & productivity was calming.

One thing that was less stressful about living in Paris was that no one talked about “reinventing” themselves. They wanted lots of paid vacation & a hard-stop retirement at 62 to eat bread, have fun, & sit around talking.

By the way my sister is an excellent photographer who does candid, gorgeous children's and family portrait sessions in Napa and San Francisco. She took many of my author photos. You can see her work and book a session here: mistyrichmond.squarespace.com

Twitter is auctioning off a bunch of raggedy chairs people sat in while fretting about the Twitter meltdown & they're not even a bargain. There's also a creepy soundproof conference room that looks like a teeny tiny lacquered version of of hell for $3500 bid.hgpauction.com/auctions/8421/

Wrote barely 200 words, beginning a new section. But using the old Hemingway trick of quitting when you know the first thing you’ll write tomorrow instead of working to exhaustion. #amwriting #WritingCommunity

Dear followers,
I should like you to know that on Boxing Day, in Rome, after taking a comfortable walk to the Piazza del Popolo, followed by a stroll through the Villa Borghese, and then back to the apartment, I had a fall.

Woke to the sound of a big tree cracking and falling, echoing through the canyon. It's such a distinctive sound. More days of rain in store this weekend. Stay safe, California. #AtmosphericRiver

The bit in Spare about the Elizabeth Arden cream is a little bit Proustian and a whole lot Freudian.

But also, it's about so much more than that. It's also an ode to love.

Fantastic thread on copyright & corporate power by the person who wrote the ending to Minecraft, refused to sign away his rights, & after Microsoft bought the game for billions from Mojang, put the ending up on the public domain...start at the beginning!
Quote Tweet
And that is a BEAUTIFUL example of exactly what I talked about in the suppressed piece I wrote about Microsoft and Minecraft. Things are now structured so that corporations (and billionaires) keep all the money generated by the work of writers and artists.

Jennifer Coolidge on how your big dreams & giant ideas “get sort of fizzled with life” is all of us who are living chapter 2. 💕Loved her in Mike White’s brilliant & fun #TheWhiteLotus & lived this speech.

Jennifer Coolidge’s speech was perfect:
“I had such big dreams as a young person, but what happens is they get sort of fizzled by life. Mike White, you gave me a new beginning, even though this is the end, 'cause you did kill me off. Even if this is the end, you changed my life”
