All you need to know about coronavirus: This graph from today's NEJM contradicts official statements that the first set of patients had been to the Wuhan wildlife market. First two patients had not been there. Officials were stupidly gambling that closing the market was enough!

We can now add lying to the failures of leaders: Human-human transmission was known by 12/25 but officials as late as 1/11 claimed no evidence of such, and blocked doctors from saying otherwise! So much for CPC technical competence.

Our collaborator Takafumi Inoue has developed a method for sensitive connectivity mapping based on the ASAP3 fluorescent voltage indicator: "Two-photon voltage imaging of spontaneous activity from multiple neurons reveals network activity in brain tissue"

The good news is that infection rates may have peaked, at least in Wuhan. This is certainly due to simple hygienic measures being implemented after the announcement the disease could be spread between people. Would have been much better if authorities had revealed that earlier.

One of biology’s great just-so stories is refuted by a new paper from . Toxoplasma infection of mice doesn’t result in specific loss of fear of cats - the “fatal attraction hypothesis - but rather alters behavior more generally. !

The scientific foundation for our milasen work was Spinraza, birthed by Adrian Krainer & Frank Bennett. Just 1 of the reasons I’m grateful to & for this launch, supporting more individualized txs for ultrarare disease.

Was fun writing this Preview for Won Do Heo's study on inducing axon differentiation using optical protein activation: First Cell Press preview for me since grad school, and both were on axon differentiation, funny enough.

Excited to announce voltage imaging in awake mice with ASAP3, out today in Cell. ASAP3 works in 1p or 2p, with random-access 2p producing >5-min recordings in vivo, a collaborative effort with the Dieudonné lab. Plasmids at addgene.
