It is freaking amazing that NYT can report this and miss the deliberate signal it sends to police:https://www.nytimes.com/2021/01/09/us/politics/trump-has-not-lowered-flags-in-honor-of-an-officer-who-died-from-injuries-sustained-amid-the-riot.html …

The refusal to lower flags to half-staff for Officer Sicklick on executive branch buildings is not oversight but a policy direct from Trump. He’s saying Sicklick was not a true police officer because he resisted the forces of MAGA.

Also note the lack of condolences from Trump. He’s warning officers that if they die in the line of duty resisting MAGA mobs, they will be denied the postmortem honors accorded “real” police.

This is a prelim to Round 2 of the putsch, which I expect Trump to launch at the border this week, supported by ICE and CBP agents.

There were no condolences for the woman who was killed either. The man doesn't care about anyone.

Why does the photo show a flag at half-mast then?

If you consider that what actually aligns these people together is white supremacy the message is clearer.

That's what's at the heart of it. Trump's constant dog whistle cannot be ignored, there's not a recent speech where he won't say take our country back, or directly tell his supporters that if they don't fight we won't have a country anymore. That's the fuel.

I'm asking because I've never heard of that. I always thought it was only for tragedy or the passing of figures of state.
