eSkeptic article on @jordanbpeterson by one of his former students. How does Peterson's advice square up with the scientific evidence for clinical effectiveness? https://www.skeptic.com/reading_room/jordan-petersons-evidence-based-endeavor/ …pic.twitter.com/GFYQRDE7Un

Just wish he would stick to his area of expertise. When he talks about truth and religion, he is a walking equivocation fallacy.

Yet none of this answers the bigger questions: how does not cleaning your room lead to lacking the moral authority to protest a social issue? The problem with Peterson is not Peterson the clinical psychologist, but Peterson the wannabe social critic and policy advocate.

It's strange to read an article today about Peterson that isn't a hit piece. Well done; regardless I expect the attacks will continue & increase b/c of his perceived alignment with the political right.

This makes an interesting contrast with the recent article from his former friend and colleague, Bernard Schiff, which relied primarily on innuendo and suspicion to portray JBP as dangerous.

I'm a huge JBP fan, but I thought Schiff's article was on the mark simply because anyone who amasses a following this large and this passionate is indeed potentially dangerous. I thought he was wrong about several points, but the overall message is relevant.

This article is heartening and expresses my own high regard for JP's outlook on human behavior. As a practicing psychologist myself who also has a strong background in empirical science, I have found even his intuitions to be consistent with both research and clinical experience.

JBP is doing competent clinical psychology at massive scale (and not in the Dr. Phil sense).. ignorant ppl assume he's all Jungian but he is clear that many clients wouldnt respond to "depth psychology" approach, so theres a lot of more "modern" ACT in his stuff than most realize

I started watching JP's personality and Maps of Meaning lectures on the internet in 2015, before he was a somebody. It was mesmerizing and rejuvenating for me, in particular the way he really embodied Wilson's notion of "consilience." He's an inspired and inspiring teacher.

One issue with scientists who enter the popular realm is whether they sufficiently explain the limits of their statements, e.g. explain which portions are accepted in the field and which portions are their own hypotheses and the subjects of their research.

What bothered me is that the author was going behind Peterson’s statements and, using different jargon, telling us where it fits into clinical psychology. As a scientist, shouldn’t Peterson have done that himself? (I don’t know that he hasn’t.)
