I am 100% for getting people to drop isolation early. Heck, I formally recommended it to CDC in May 2020 and Published the recommendation in J of Clin Infectious Diseases in April 2020. But it was always with a negative test. What the heck are we doing here? 2/

This is the part that hurts the most. The reason they are doing this: "The change is motivated by science demonstrating... SARS-CoV-2 transmission occurs... generally in the 1-2 days prior to onset of symptoms and the 2-3 days after" That was BEFORE OMICRON. 3/

Today, it is OBVIOUS the situation has changed. Ppl are testing earlier b/c symptom onset is early - no longer two days after people are infectious. So now people are staying positive even longer after testing positive, because they find out earlier they are positive. 4/

And even if negative, recombination events have nonzero probabilities* albeit a much lower risk. Arguing in absolutes without uncertainty metrics is also reckless.

Dude, no one cares anymore. And I mean that in multiple different ways. We're tired. We're sick of being blasted with rules and guidelines. The current wave is going to erode all faith in testing. There is no point. Ill? Couple of days off and back at it. Same as always.

This is just plain dumb. It’s all driven by getting people back to work in order to keep society going. In CA they stopped COVID sick days in September but we really need them now. What happens when an employer forces you back to work after 5 days?

I think you have to realize that a lot of people are not compliant with the current isolation guidelines of 14 days. If you want people to follow the rules they have to change with the circumstances and also have to be accepted by the majority. Currently, the majority is vaxxed
