If we open too soon, it won't be a handful or even tens of imports starting new transmission chains (as this epidemic began) Now, it may be 100s - 1000s of chains "rustling under the leaves" to ignite major outbreaks again - these could exceed the first wave of this pandemic

So we need to take extreme caution when opening up. We aren't sure what it will bring. No one is sure. A nice article by @DrewQJoseph discusses these concerns.https://www.statnews.com/2020/04/30/reopening-some-states-heightens-risk-others/ …

It feels like *very few* people get this risk. We are sitting on top of a powder keg.

Yes, and they are all telling us "this was the point of the lockdown in the first place. It wasn't too stop it, it was just too slow it down while we got ventilators and PPE and testing capacity". It's like they forgot the part where only 100-200k die instead of 2.2 million

And please, before any of you criticize me for not thinking about all the people that will die if our supply chains and economies collapse, look through my profile. We need to be focused intensely on both

I think too soon is anytime before we have good systems in place for early warning signs to tell us that transmission is taking off. If we don't have the public health warning systems in place, we may be back where we just were, with hospitals, in some areas, drowning.

How about a "ok, fine. We will open the economy. However, please accept this waiver that says you won't rush the hospitals in your thousands in a fortnight."

I am a nobody and have been saying the same thing. In the beginning the virus had to travel from China. Now it is in our backyard.

Seems like in 3 of the major pandemics of the last 100 years. That’s exactly what happened. Somehow that risk isn’t being communicated.
