We can have all of the test kits we need, but they rely on our ability to get the RNA out of a sample first, for testing. As this epidemic becomes in full swing, many additional reagents or parts that we never usually question the availability of may become difficult to find.

What is our capacity for CT scans as an alternative diagnostic?
-
they can be performed for the sick. but only those that make their way to a hospital. Not realistic for monitoring contacts of infected people or any wider surveillance.

Thanks. However these are different than the standards needed. This refers to the kits needed to pull the viral rna (if is there) out of a sample and look for it using the test.

Can any of the influenza surveillance resources be diverted? Is it the same RNA extraction kit?
-
Flu tests are 10 minute quick tests for the flu antigens requiring no extraction. I’m sure biomedical companies are working on this type test for COVID 19 as fast as possible.
