Exactly. Meritocracy = advancement based entirely on ability Adam can mow 1 acre of grass an hour. Bob can mow 2 acres of grass an hour. Therefore, Bob "deserves" to make more than Adam. (Granted, meritocracy is often talked about in the context of state bureaucracies)
