Getting punched, assaulted and even murdered was part of the Nazis' rise to power. They fundraised off of claims of victimization and made martyrs of those who were killed.

Along similar lines, they would never have existed (or grown in popularity) had there not been rampant leftist street violence in the 1920s (heralded by a literal communist revolution in 1919.)
