notably, Wikipedia refers to them under the euphemism of the "Ferguson unrest" and mentions riots as a fourth possible name. "The riots aren't happening!...Ok they are happening but they aren't riots!" is not new to 2020. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ferguson_unrest …

Corporate press benefits doubly - ratings from the riots they had a hand in instigating, and more interesting election races they can cheer and rail against.

There was much hand wringing and gnashing of teeth by pundits after both the 2014 and 2016 elections. "How did we not see this coming?" They cried. Guess they don't learn very well.

I remember watching the livestreams of Ferguson and how after the verdict came out, the crowd turned and took off down the street to start the chaos. Was unreal watching it happen 25 mins away from where I lived at the time. That was a straight up riot.

The networks all had cameras & journalists at those protests & riots, too. Now they hide away so they can pretend it didn't happen.

That may be the case in 2014 but they were pretty effective in 2012 for the democrats.
