    It's literally a word they heard used to describe some activity they agreed with. So now they use it against their opposition. I don't think there's any more to it than that. Actually, i doubt they think of it as a word instead of a mere phoneme.

        I really do think that's it. Similar in my opinion to calling people "nazis," except "bot" carries no significant emotional weight so that aspect of the tactic doesn't apply.

        That's the case for any term by the time r*ddit has adopted it. It wrings any cleverness out of a new meme and replaces it with "us:good, them:bad" in a quest for upvotes.
