I think much of the issue historically has been seeing chronic drug use as the problem and not the symptom. It’s probably still true today, to a large extent though slowly decreasing.

The number of people in the US who are thinking “Gee, I’d love to do some hard drugs but there are simply none to be had” is pretty much zero. Supply is still effectively infinite and ubiquitous, even in prisons. They have accomplished less than nothing.

The inconsistency of allowing some pressure relief mechanisms like beer etc, but not others, has always struck me as an indicator that the masses are viewed as livestock. A balance of stimuli maintained to keep everyone productive but still wanting more.

It would undermine their very right to rule if they to renig on nearly a century of prohibition. W/ out their ability to posture with 'expert guidance' and have it treated by *enough* of general public as a truth spoken from omniscience, they're as English monarchs w/out divinity

IMO, if you dont need a lab to manufacture a substance that stupifies the senses then it should be regulated as much as tobacco and alcohol. The next arguement would be the necessity of regulation on alcohol and tobacco. Other drugs should be regulated like drugs needing a scrip.

Reasonable regulation on recreational drugs should be a thing. Otherwise you’re gonna be fighting the same fight.
