I agree. I'm a pessoptimist. Gotta be able to cynical when needed but always keep that optimism. I don't think anyone is always "either or" when it comes to being a pessimist or optimist. Some get stuck in the pessimistic rut though, and it's hard to break free from.

I've seen many things change for the better and other things change for the worse. I believe that a civil and a world war is in our future, however in 2014 it looked as if the outcomes of such wars would be worse than they now look.

I think one aspect of the problem is the persistent news of our leaders persistently doing and saying anti-social things and the media holding these up as people to emulate. When the message appears to be "resistance is futile", it's understandable if someone believes it.
