Private security already exists, I have no problem with people having more services to contact, or with dispatchers sending social workers w/ police. But replacing the 911 system because “it’s a monopoly” as if having a single point of contact is inconvenient is counterproductive

I'm confused about the part where you were being forced to use any more than the one number you want to use.

seems counterintuitive that someone out of the emergency couldn't direct the right resources in a more time-friendly manor.

Do they not realize the implications of what they are saying or do they have a fundamentally different worldview where fewer choices = better and more streamlined?

Genuine question: Do you mean having separate numbers to call for each emergency service or additional services that can be called or having a similar but decentralized version of 911?

So a central dispatch plus numbers for each service if you want them? Isn't that the case now?

It's more exciting if you aren't sure someone isn't going to shoot your dog when you call for a fire or medical emergency though.
