the USPS has a monopoly on letter delivery By law, only you and the U.S. Postal Service are allowed to put things in your mailboxhttps://twitter.com/Racismdogowners/status/1292391501096517632 …

The USPS is not a monopoly. Private companies have zero financial incentive to send mail out to rural areas. Hell, they use USPS anyway for the last leg of many shipments because it's cheaper than doing it themselves https://twitter.com/michaelmalice/status/1290334311145758731 …

The federal government needs the USPS to deliver tax bills and notices to people living in rural areas.

The reason monopolies are so hated is because they can do what they want with prices. The USPS, on the other hand, keeps prices low, meaning greater access for everyone. Their purpose is providing good service, not making as much money as possible

They've lost $78 billion since 2007 and now want a $75 billion bailout, congress wants to give them 10b. They're not making money by any stretch of the imagination and their service is shit, in my personal experience.

Private companies have every incentive to send mail to rural areas. They would charge market rates instead of losing money like the losers at USPS.

People don't exactly send many letters these days. This would be a good argument if it weren't completely disconnected from the real world where the internet exists and private services would even bother sending letters to rural/unconnected areas for a reasonable price if at all.
