if someone stole hedge clippers from me or forged a check i would certainly think twice about having them incarcerated for literally years if there were other options (entirely contingent on the perp, that is)https://twitter.com/efreshwater5/status/1291581814491033600 …

I've stolen, and been stolen from I never used violence to steel. I have threatened violence to avoid being stolen from, but didn't have to exercise it.

Libertarian philosophy rests on the pillar of private property rights. You may think rape is different than theft, and it is, but wouldn’t this be a violation of the NAP? Can one use force to protect their property? I think so.

Any assault against a physical person (rape, murder, armed robbery), whether harm is real or merely threatened, is far different from removal of property from the owner ("regular" theft). Assault someone causing physical or mental trauma cannot be compensated for with fiat.

I'd include burglarizing residences as a traumatic violation even if the residents aren't home at the time. That said, it's hard to make generalizations. I've been robbed at gunpoint and had a car stolen, and the car theft was more upsetting to me. The robber was kind of polite!
