not to mention expensive i also suspect most people who are the victims of, say, theft don't actually want the person traumatized as much as somehow restrainedhttps://twitter.com/Ilikehockeyfig1/status/1291580876350844928 …

Jail for almost any non violent offence seems odd to me.

Right? Plus how can they pay restitution when they are behind bars?

On the contrary, I think that trauma would be a better deterrent than long-term restraint of a person. Singapore-style public flogging would be a cheaper and more effective punishment for vandals and thieves than a prison term.

I think most criminals should be sentenced to 1-day of hard tickling, administered by the person(s) they've wronged. The tickler can be gentle or uncompromising, but tickle sessions are limited to 15-min intervals, followed by a 5-min bathroom break & opportunity for forgiveness.

Ending the welfare state would cut down on property crime significantly.

I've had two residences burglarized and I've been assaulted. Having your home robbed is a violation of personal property and liberty. I'm not saying it’s right, but I do want them traumatized. And I want to be the one to carry it out.

I would suspect that victims of theft just want their stuff back as a primary motivation. Somewhere down in the tertiary tree, though, they want three generations of punishment.
