Appalachia proves this false, we only have per capita 1/4 of the crime of equally poor urban areas.

Religiosity is a factor. This is ALWAYS ignored. A poor community with a strong moral fabric will avoid high rates of criminality.

Which is why a collective group of individuals will eventually devolve into chaos without an establishment of some form of foundational principles and structure even if we accept that lie of poverty leading to most crime. Or am I just too stupid to figure this out?

wishful thinking is one reason Also maybe the model of mind–body dualism or the good soul in the corrupt body. Poverty is broadly conceived as a state of the body's need, crime the manifestation of corporeal desire. With the body sated, the good soul/mind will live in peace
