I don't agree with this. I love talking to people. I am not really trying to establish rapport as much as I'm trying to live life and experience new people, places and things. I'll talk to anyone. I wonder if this makes me predictable.

I see many people preface their negative comments with some sort of personal appeal. “I normally like your stuff but...”

What I like better is the compulsion for some people to chime in with "I normally hate your opinions but"

It's fair to say most people named "Michael" go by "Mike" and most people will simply observe the pattern, but this reasoning doesn't hold when someone presents themselves using their full name.
