why is it so hard for ppl to understand that they don't personally know the verified accounts they are tweeting, so it's weird to assume they're going to automatically get their humor, or even want to?

Because the same approval-seeking behavior in real life also applies on social media. Being rude to out-group rando's is a means of impressing desirable in-groups... ...and to be totally honest, so is me answering your question.
