nor did Joy Ann and Hillary take the tack of "i can't believe he's joking about something so serious," which they do in other contexts. again, the knee-jerk take is they know he's kidding and acting otherwise. the other possibility bears considering and explains much

People do change their beliefs so the left/right brain dichotomy isn't fixed. I just think people place virtue in being the most aggrieved and so are wilfully obtuse when confronted with a joke.
