this would explain why comments that r "obviously" jokes for 1 side are taken literally by the other there's a big difference between "that's not funny!" (perceiving a joke, attempted or otherwise, and rejecting the humor) & "he's not joking" (not even perceiving a joke attempt)

i am thinking specifically of this clip i had a good friend insist to me that this was trump not kidding he is not insane and has a great sense of humor otherwise

nor did Joy Ann and Hillary take the tack of "i can't believe he's joking about something so serious," which they do in other contexts. again, the knee-jerk take is they know he's kidding and acting otherwise. the other possibility bears considering and explains much

I think there’s evidence to suggest it’s more the left that can’t understand the right. Jonathan Haight had a survey that showed the right could predict the left far far far better than the left could predict the opinions of the right if that means anything
