As discourse deepens in terms of what causes political perspectives (as opposed to the relative benefits), there' something to be said for the theory that right- and left-wing brains are wired differently enough that each tribe, broadly speaking, is akin to autistic re: the other

this would explain why comments that r "obviously" jokes for 1 side are taken literally by the other there's a big difference between "that's not funny!" (perceiving a joke, attempted or otherwise, and rejecting the humor) & "he's not joking" (not even perceiving a joke attempt)

nor did Joy Ann and Hillary take the tack of "i can't believe he's joking about something so serious," which they do in other contexts. again, the knee-jerk take is they know he's kidding and acting otherwise. the other possibility bears considering and explains much

Am I wrong to think that if the Left felt like they were actually winning the culture war they wouldnt be resorting to full blown hysteria?

I think there’s evidence to suggest it’s more the left that can’t understand the right. Jonathan Haight had a survey that showed the right could predict the left far far far better than the left could predict the opinions of the right if that means anything
