Yes but in real life one wouldn't flippantly dismiss a person's ignorant questions by directing them to read a bunch of books. That would be seen as a brush-off. A polite person would engage with the person first and then say something like "if you're interested, I recommend..."

I have had many conversations end with book recommendation. I don't usually have seven hours to relay what amounts to hundreds of pages of information. Also when arguing its not terribly unusual to be rude.
