I think the big worry that racism could come back needs to be supported/disproved by historical evidence on both sides. There are many cases where ethnic tensions have been revived but I dont know how applicable they are to a country as new as the US.

Support is non-binary, the majority supported segregation in the sense they would not incur personal cost to oppose it, but not in the sense they would incur personal cost to support it if it wasn't a law and had to be maintained by lateral inforcement

People don't live in vacuums. There were many Southerners who didn't support Jim Crow laws and who had intimate relationships with black people and black families. People view history like it's a big hunk of cheese. Just one big monolithic cheesy blob.

The market can reflect evil beliefs even in the absence of a monopoly. If you believe the reflection of evil beliefs in the market is a bad, you believe the market can fail in this way. What, if anything, the government should do to correct this failure is a different discussion.
