How do WaPo reporters write a sentence like this: “The president ... referred to ‘violent mayhem’ in the streets, even though *many* of the mass demonstrations have been *largely* peaceful.”

These types never pause to think "hey if the corporate journalists are training their readers as to how to perceive every story, maybe they're training their readers as to how to perceive their very role."

They write what they hope happens & then back up that derangement no matter what happens.

Conservative commentary plays a similar role, or at least some do. A mockable and outrageous press offer easy examples to use for their audience. They use the and observe the press hourly, it's unbelievable to think they also don't know what they're doing.

And how often do they need to see the pattern before recognizing it? I'm baffled on how many people claim the corporate press makes "mistakes"

I think he's just shocked by the brazenness of it. Although I guess he shouldn't be.

I don’t think such considerations are AT ALL important when you realize that job security is at stake. They are willing to have the public perceive them any old way, as long as they can keep making a living writing. In fact, bonus: writing outrage is kind of fun!
