I fear we are reaching a point in our nation's growing ideological self-segregation where people are silently becoming more comfortable with violence toward their foes.

i do not know how big the divide is between violence as a last resort and violence as pleasurable sadism i hope it is very very wide but history tells me otherwise

Collective hysteria is a powerful tool. Shuts down all thought borders. Media is dividing more and more because of information overload on other places. Classic divide and conquer with smaller difference doesn't work anymore

It’s not. Violence is the ultimate authority upon which all other authority is derived. When there is a lack of confidence of the authority structures of our civilization, we will resort to violence to solve our differences and fight for power

The divide may not be that big. Violence as a last resort necessitates patience, turning the other cheek, attempts at reason, negotiation, appeals to basic human norms. When all that fails, & you use violence as a last resort it can feel pretty damn good

I think the current silent majority shows the divide is great. Although the behavior out there is atrocious, most feel we haven't reached the last resort. Unfortunately I'm also afraid we'll live like Venezuela at the last resort.

The non-aggression principle is only as strong as the state which enforces it; this state is weak.

Honestly, I think the divide is huge. It's truly one thing to enjoy watching some agitator get whacked by a pole, and another to want to do it yourself. It all depends how long these protestors continue, really.

Those categories are pretty evenly split based on ideology at this point. It's going to be frightening when the former becomes active.
