I did not expect the Cathedral to be going full Mao in its death throes. I also find it lazy thinking to regard trends as not reverting to a mean after some point.

Is it really a white pill if we have to go through the reign of terror before the cathedral is beheaded?

Can't data formerly considered "outlying" have an impact in shifting the mean? Even if the trends revert to the mean, doesn't the trend itself alter the mean going forward? How much do you think that the current trends will shift the Overton window?

Emphasis on collectivist mass movements, cultural revolution and erasing the past were always more the Maoist style of communism. We've had lots of hints that it was going that direction so I don't find it that surprising. Frank Dikötter has a great book series on ChiCom history.

There is an Argentine author who in an interview described the dinner parties at his parent's home. They openly discussed who should be disappeared. People would be taken from their homes at night, never seen again. The NYT is reflecting the interests of it's subscribers.
