That's somewhat related to the idea of Fallen Angel vs. Rising Beast, right? Fallen Angel sees humans as good, but corrupted by sinful society (progressivism/religion). Rising Beast is the darwinist approach that sees humans as evolved from nature with its attendant consequences.

Michael, I think we all recognize the benefits of platonism whether or not we've read Herman's book. For example, the idea that the free market works is more real than the actual occasions when it doesn't. A pattern is more real than individual observations
