Racial archetypes like the Mammy were transitional forms of racism and mitigated even more abhorrent stereotypes of former slaves as violent subhuman savages.

We are trained to regard tradeoffs as either unnecessary or immoral. There were no good options for black Americans a century ago. There were choices between bad options, and every individual black person had to make them. That is the definition of oppression.

People are trained to think of trade-offs as binary options with the one they disapprove of being an expression of hatred. The reality is there is only risk preference and risk management, and risk preference is purely subjective.

In not that did it any past, a large segment of society believed the "science" that said black ppl were less evolved than whites. Good example of why science is about questioning, rather than believing.

They do the same thing with laborers, the choices back then weren’t between working in a loom factory and sitting behind a computer in an air conditioned office

Which is oppression? Being trained to regard trade offs as immoral, or being forced to make the best choices of bad options? Or that combination as a whole system?
