Cops are likely to get into life or death situations because of their job, especially now and they fear if they defend themselves they will be charged with murder. Tough situation for someone making maybe 50k a year

"Being a police officer is thus dangerous but not as dangerous as being an average American male." When something seems "obviously" true that is a testament to how pervasive the message is in our media and education system It's not a testament to its truthhttps://www.wsj.com/articles/is-america-facing-a-police-crisis-1469828089 …

There was a mini-doc, I believe by VICE, that exposed how one of the leading police consultant/trainers instilled a “us vs. them” philosophy in a uncomfortably large percentage of police departments around the country. One of his biggest points was “do whatever you gotta do

I don’t know if America is facing a policing crisis but I know some cities are about to face a non policing crisis.

There is a slue of jobs more dangerous than law enforcement. Not one more annoying from ‘customers’ end of this ‘service’ though.

Most people have a fairly good idea of what cops do. They want the job done, they don’t want to do it themselves, and are more than willing to pay someone else to do it. The danger thing is part of it, but far from the only reason people want cops.
