my crew were all talking about moving en masse elsewhere and i had this whole subtext of abandonment--which i never feel--and then i realized wait this is NYC, people come to visit here all the time but i did forget for a minute that "this is NYC." because _this_ isn't NYC.https://twitter.com/ReactiveBrandon/status/1261679532978946049 …

I grew up in Texas (Dallas area). Lots of wonderful people. The weather is beyond miserable, as are the insects. Most of eastern and southern Texas is like that. Austin does have some cultural highlights.

Personally, I dig the Vegas culture - I call it "Bourgeois-Chic." It's glitzy, glammy, absurdly over-the-top, and proudly gives zero fucks if someone doesn't like it. There's a sign you see when flying out of McCarran airport that says "Please come again. And again. And again."

Culturally, Austin is not liberatarian at all. It's the San Francisco of Texas. One of my ancap friends moved there a few months ago and I haven't really followed up on his experience. If you'd like, I'll see if I can get him to post something onhttps://malice.locals.com
