it is not valid to claim, as people who say that seem to think, that private companies are precluded from criticism.https://twitter.com/MallardBeakman/status/1260584700936171522 …

Even if insufferable, B is still a valid common thought inasmuch that people continue to seriously argue that the First Amendment applies to Twitter (it doesn't).

@michaelmalice I do not argue that they are precluded from criticism (I'm about to leave FB for its disgusting acts of censorship). But B is still valid to rebut contentions that the First Amendment forecloses private companies from censoring, which it does not.

This is why @prageru lost its First Amendment claim against @YouTube , because "B" is indeed valid and sometimes bears repeating.

Twitter and FB are pretty much monopolies/propaganda organizations.

FB and Twitter are political organizations that pretend to be tech companies claiming safe harbor from lawsuits under the CDA, thus operating unlawfully and undeserving of the specific legal protections enabling them to continue their virtual monopoly on the public discourse.

The other issue with it that I see is that when people talk about "freedom of speech" they are also discussing it as a cultural value and not specifically the rules of the land. It is basically just a way to shut people down without addressing their real concern.

And the people who rush to defend Facebook and Twitter for consistently harassing and silencing non-progressives, will also be generally anti-capitalist and anti-corporate when speaking about any other issue. Games are so much more fun when the goal posts move around and stuff!

I'm gonna side with James on this one. There's nothing wrong with the statement, in and of itself. I get your contempt with the majority of people who say it, but it's not everyone. Oof, now that another phrase to add to the poll. "Not *everybody* says/thinks/does that."

i would like to criticize the very idea of a limited liability corporation; it creates a situation in which shareholders and executives have very little skin in the game

Baloney. You provided no context to "B". Few people I know think private companies are precluded from criticism.
