Kim Jong Un is the elite's key to holding on to power. The premise that if he dies they would simply back down to China and/or America or the forces of liberal democracy, though hopeful and promising, is not remotely close to a given. #KIMJONGUNDEAD

Further there is every chance they would be held responsible for crimes against humanity given the ongoing concentration camps there. They know this very well. Let's all hope for the peaceful liberation of the people of north Korea.

The people in the camps are told explicitly that should the US imperialists invade, they will all be slaughtered and the camps razed. This should be a source of enormous concern (though I am certain it is to the American administration at the very least.)

leave it to north Korea to come up with a legit answer to the rhetorical "What could possibly be worse than concentration camps?"

if in fact he were dead this might be one of their top priorities and an urgent matter of life-and-death for them i am very very worried about this

North Korea is probably one of the best examples of 'Riding the Tiger' there is. They'll be ripped to shreds if they ever let go. If he's actually Kim Jong Undead I hope that a reformer succeeds him who will give NK more freedom, but I'm not very hopeful.

Theoretically, if the West were to get involved, would it be better to let the state funeral occur, or to interfere in an attempt to break the cult of personality?

If they were guaranteed there would be no prosecution, ever, as long as they give up power, would any of them accept?

My hot north Korea take is I'd gladly pardon every single one of those abominable monsters in exchange for everyone else in the country being freed

Agreed... It’s a stretch but the “monsters”can make the argument they did what they were told to protect themselves and their families. ....and the truly evil “monsters” will always be looking their shoulders anyway. People don’t forget atrocities.

I hope for this every day. I will continue to hope this until they are free, or I die, whichever comes first.

From your mouth to God’s ear, condition those people have lived under for so many years is a human tragedy.
