one thing i've discovered is how narrow the range of political philosophy is presented in our culture, both for Chomsky reasons but for many others. most people have no idea what Mussolini, anarchists and even early progressives stood for (unless invoked as foils)

I find the circular framework ala Hayek and others useful for explaining communism's inherent kinship with fascism--namely that people won't comply with communism without a boot on their necks.

I use Freedom of Individual Speech as the litmus. Communism, Fascism, Islamofascism, and American Democrat goals are identical; State-sanctioned speech only. (UK Labour, too.)

The division of Left vs. Right is probably a smell text. For example, Sometimes “not-right” just seems like people who won’t play ball with western banking/militarism: e.g., Iran, Russia, Libya, Syria, North Korea. Leftists see the nationalisms of other people as fine & good.

Americans look at FDR as the pinnacle of American Leftism, but how many of their ideas did they get from Italian Fascism? Plenty. How much was Italian Fascism a mere heresy of Marxism? Plenty. Ideas bleed into each other. They enjoy the technology of statism.
