Another thing that Ann Rand gets wrong in her vampire novels is the implicit message for young people that if you are ambitious and talented a la Roark, then older people will somehow be put off by you. Now that I am a generation older I can say the opposite is the case.

I'm no expert on this but the cross generational relationship of the 40s and 50s seems rather different than now.

Maybe I'm too influenced by the 1960s "generation gap" looming so large in popular culture but the Baby Boomers seem to have a much different relationship with their kids than their parents. I'm hazy on what things were like pre60s but not the same as what you experience?
