Another thing that Ann Rand gets wrong in her vampire novels is the implicit message for young people that if you are ambitious and talented a la Roark, then older people will somehow be put off by you. Now that I am a generation older I can say the opposite is the case.

That makes you a good person and rare mentor. I've found those traits rare, and more often I've encountered people a generation ahead who hate ambitious youngsters who dont fall in line. Seriously messed with my military career but led me to a way happier civvie life.
