Anything you'd recommend about, or by, Wallace Thurman? It seems my grandfather may have been his lover, so I'm curious.

He's mentioned in works about the era, given various spellings to his name. Harold Jan Stefansson, or variations on it. Brilliant man, got full scholarship to Columbia, was an Icelandic-Canadian from a small town, and got about as alcoholic as the Harlem Renaissance crowd.

He's sometimes described as Danish-Canadian, because the character Stefan Jorgenson is written as Danish-Canadian.

No - just that this was assumed by researchers of the era. We actually found out from scholarly sources (!).

Unfortunately not, though I can see if I have photos or anything from the era. They'd be with my older relatives (father and his siblings). He remarried, and I think he was very tight-lipped about it afterward, for obvious reasons.

Yeah, it's strange to have read secondary sources on it, and about how it camouflages the real relationship between them, but not the work itself. I should really get on that.
