I don't have that perspective myself. For the 70's generation growing up here in US, the stories of recent family generations resonate with us. But, we don't posses the depth of emotional connection that only comes from direct experience. I see a warning in Franklins words

Having spent so much blood to win freedom, I would imagine there was a visceral desire to maintain what had been such a sacrifice to obtain. Very few in who have had the priveledge to grow up here will ever fully understand it. That is the warning Franklin offers.
