ive even had them post screencaps of the rule (as midwits are wont to do) when the cap they posted is the direct opposite of their claim it is hard to overstate my contempt for these types

I put the periods outside but I don’t feel strongly about it. I’m open to change. I did a total 180 on the Oxford comma not too long ago.

I think ideally they'd just stack vertically in line like a semicolon

I put them inside and outside because I honestly don't know the rule but it just makes sense to me. Unless the quote isn't the end of a thought or when quoting text there wasn't a period after the quoted text, and therefore doesn't require a period inside the quotes.

You only include punctuation inside the quotes if that punctuation was part of the original quote. Otherwise outside. Well, that's the new trend, and so will be official rules at some point if not already. Yeah, living language and all that, ever changing.
