do you think they ever foresaw this expansion and if they did, was it by design?

They did their best to design a system that would at least be difficult to expand. I think they knew it would bloat eventually which is why they talked so much about revolution from time to time.

They also never envisioned a global American hegemony we have to fight to keep. But today Americans can hardly envision what it would be like to dismantle it. Same with the war on drugs, a gross federal overreach. But Americans cant envision society without criminalizing drugs

Didn’t some/most of the Founding Fathers own slaves? What’s more oppressive than slavery?

What the Founding Fathers would say if they witnessed today's oppressive, invasive, and imperial government.pic.twitter.com/I0qrvXydz6

Eh....as whole, I think the American population has more freedom today than it did while the Founders were alive. The size and scope may be bigger today but its ability to put a boot on the neck sure isn't.

Income tax was created in 1913. Patriot act 2001 and US has 800 military bases in over 70 countries. I’m pretty sure that hits oppression, invasiveness and imperialism.
