School is the only place I ever had someone tell me to stop reading a book, or that a book was too much for me.

100% - I dodged every book they forced on me. I skimmed just enough to pass multiple choice tests. Only after high school did i discover that some of the were good.

I am an educator. Children are natural curious and school does everything it can to beat that out of them in favor of approved knowledge. It is the stated goal of the most influential educators in american history to train the members of society to fit in that place.

I used to love reading as a kid and read many a book. Then I just stopped around high school reading long books. I didn’t realize it until a year or two ago that being forced by school to read for the sake of testing rather than reading caused me to hate reading.
