As a kid I'd ride with him taking the pulp wood to Lisbon Falls, We'd stop in New Auburn and get some soda and a Heath Bar, he'd meet people, some knew him the Irish man, Willie Baker, the others knew him as the Frenchman William Belanger, he was always Irish when he drank.

He was a legit lumber Jack & built his own skidders, I used to hang in the garage w/ him and he would smoke these hand rolled cigs, and I'd watch him put it out, step on it, keep working, few minutes later he'd spy the butt, pick it up & lite itagain, telling me to not tell Gram

As a teenage, I had a Pontiac firebird, just a six, and here I am, thinking I'm cool as sh!t, and gramp pulls up next to me in his cr. Vic, he looks at me and we race down down Washington Ave where he seriously trounces me.

He had a ton of personal stories, my favorites involved stories of working in a lumber camp during the depression, he spoke of driving dead bodies into town, frozen stiff with 1/2 the corpse sticking out the window, he had quite a few tales.
