While the constitution is the defining document of American exceptionalism, it is true that the values therein are at such high standard the Americans have yet to demonstrably fulfill it to the fullest. I hope for our sake we can do better than the founders—as intended.

Not true. It was tried right up until Lincoln. He was the first, and since then it has been a slow creep. Nobody stepped up. Closest we've seen is Virginia. Again you/we all failed.
