Why do some people find glee in uncovering a mistake in an author they genuinely like? (Not the same as FYI There's a typo on p. 312) I can't quite get a handle on the psychology.

Makes them feel like an equal to their favorite author if they find a mistake then it means to them that the author is just as human and fallible as them. So I suppose you can chalk it up to a crab in bucket mentality.
