The reason I am such a proponent of the gym for mental health is that it is probably the easiest way to have quantifiable data that things are improving in your life. If you do say six lifts and any one of them goes up in weight or reps, it's very grounding

Exactly. It only takes a few trips to the gym before you start noticing positive results and gaining confidence, which in turn motivates you to keep going.
