i can believe that many of the children in this article or in general are disturbed enough that they cannot really be around other kids my point is that public education's goal of "making good citizens" is the thinnest of euphemisms for breaking the spirit of every single child

I had this done to me many times as a kid. It led to me dropping out in the 6th grade. Shockingly once I wasn't being locked up in a room every single weekday for multiple hours at a time, my mental health improved greatly to the point I could function basically normally.

When my family moved to California, my younger brother, who is non-verbal and severely autistic, used to cry every morning when he got dropped at school. My mom didn't understand why. They were locking him in one of these rooms every day for the entire school day. He was seven.
