Malcolm Muggeridge, then on the left, also wrote the truth about the famine in the Guardian. I always suspected that this is why Christopher Hitchens (who was accused of reducing the famine to "shortages" by Martin Amis) despised Muggeridge in connection with Mother Teresa.
