Video game companies are using “pay-to-win” and “loot box” systems to addict children to their games and spend their parents money. The industry needs to be upfront about their role in America’s growing addiction economy & stop practices that exploit kids https://twitter.com/Kotaku/status/1126155720817291264 …

In case you doubt my adage that conservatism is progressivism driving the speed limit, Josh here is about 5-6 years behind in the evangelical left's attack on the video game industry.

He's trying to ban it across the board. The kids are just the excuse.

Where does this busybody meddling come from? It’s like they’re bored and need something to try to ban.

I think everything Hawley says is right... I know plenty of adults who spend gobs of a money because they are addicted to a game...but so what... Game developers have every right to be slime balls trying to get people addicted to spending tons of money on 'free' content

My kid plays a ton of Minecraft. Some of his other games want him to buy a couple of bucks worth of something from time to time - I don't care. I make sure it never goes over $10 a month.

This is not what he's talking about. Minecraft offers promised digital goods for a stated price. Loot Boxes offer random rolls at obtaining items from a pool of items. You could spend the entire amount of the game and not get the item from the pool you want.
