China could easily be above the replacement rate if they wanted to. Also, while intelligent and successful people tend to have fewer children, I wouldn't say college on the whole creates intelligent or successful people.

Why do we put all of this money and research into life saving/life extending technology? Why do we send money and resources to poor, starving regions? Seems like we could solve the "overpopulation" problem and save a lot of money at the same time...

For that matter, if we're "ending a viable life", should we put lower AND upper limits on these laws - say under age 3/over age 75 is fair game? Old people bleed resources much more than children, and babies will one day grow up to be good tax-paying subjects of .gov!

It's basically how many people argue in favor of communism. The more free the economy, the more people it can support. When you don't understand why that is, you assume we'll run out of resources, so you want the state to ration them for everyone.
